This is a tool prepared for Library and Archives Canada to help in applying equity-based analysis to policies, programs and practices. Users are asked to consider five questions in relation to the following equity groups: Women and girls; racial, ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities; Indigenous peoples – First Nations, Inuit, Métis; people living with disabilities (includes mobility impaired, Deaf, visually impaired, people with mental health conditions); people living on low incomes; sexual/gender identity groups, such as lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender persons; people disadvantaged by geographic location; other groups identified by the user (such as groups based on age, or other salient factor).
The appendix to this document contains an example of how one of the questions might apply to access, cataloguing, communications, creation of information products, acquisition, disposal, evaluation, exhibitions, policy and program development, preservation, and professional development. The grid is designed to be used for any policy, program or practice.
